A Family History

Malherbe International School was founded by the Malherbe family in 1990 after many years of living as expatriates, primarily in Japan and the United States.

As the parents of four children, Mr and Mrs. Malherbe encountered the difficulties that families face when moving to new countries and trying to find availability in the school of your choice for children of varying ages. Once settled back in France, they opened a school in Le Pecq, which initially operated as a nursery and preschool.

The main site in le Vésinet was opened in 1992 as the school grew and eventually opened primary classes.

Malherbe International School started as a Montessori preschool following Mr and Mrs Malherbe’s very positive experience with Montessori education when their children were in schools abroad. Later on, the choice was made to extend the school into the primary classes basing the curriculum on the British education system, but incorporating a strong French component, in order to allow pupils to move successfully to any education system in France or abroad after their time at MIS.

AC Malherbe (2)

In 2013 Ms Anne-Claire Malherbe, Mr and Mrs Malherbe’s daughter, who had previously been living in South America, moved back to France in order to devote herself to the family project, becoming the school Principal. Upon her return with her half -Argentinean son, Anne-Claire decided to open a Spanish section in the school, thus providing native Spanish-speaking children with the opportunity to study within a bilingual or trilingual program of education.

The school recently took a new leap forward in 2019 with the opening of its middle school program. Malherbe International Secondary School currently welcomes students in Year 7-8 (Grades 6-7 or 6ème to 5ème).
