The 2024 edition of the ELSA France Primary Poetry by Heart took place on May 22nd, 2024 at Malherbe International School. Despite highly unfavorable weather conditions, the day was a delightful success!
After quickly ushering our 42 eager competitors along with parents and accompanying teachers into their three classrooms, to avoid an unexpected springtime downpour, we sat down to enjoy a lovely afternoon of poetry. The students, ranging from 7 to 11 years old, presented themselves with poise and confidence. They each shared their personal interpretations with infectious enthusiasm.
This year, the second edition of the Primary Poetry by Heart event organized thanks to ELSA France, welcomed 11 schools, with almost twice the number of participants as in 2023. If was great to see many new faces as well as some returning finalists.
Poetry by Heart is a national poetry speaking competition for schools and colleges in England. ELSA France, the English Language Schools Association, has been partnering with the UK National Competition since 2015 to bring this wonderful event to its network of member schools.
The afternoon ended with a lovely award ceremony during which the 3 winners and 3 runner-ups were called to receive their prize and perform their chosen poem in front of the gathered assembly.
A big thank you goes out to all the judges and helpers who ensured a smooth event for all, as well as to participating schools for finding their way to our western suburbs.
And finally, a huge congratulations to the participants for their great performances!
