Proud of our Young Authors!
This year, we relaunched the Young Authors project which we had been running previously for several years.
The Key Stage 2 teachers spent several weeks working with their students on what makes a good story, teaching essential skills such as story mapping, character development, drafting and editing.
The students were encouraged to come up with their own original stories, having explored different genres in literacy such as adventure, mystery, horror or journal writing. They were encouraged to use the literary devices they have been learning about in class to enrich their writing. The students then had time in class to work on their final draft, adding illustrations as well as a book cover and “About the Author” page to their final work.
The half-term concluded with a wonderful shared moment celebrating our Key Stage 2 Young Authors, where the winners read their stories to the assembled parents and fellow students.
